Compliance Statement On Nitrous Oxide (N₂O)

As of 8 November 2023, nitrous oxide (N₂O) has been classified as a Class C controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and placed in Schedule 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001.

This change means that while nitrous oxide remains legal for legitimate culinary, commercial, and catering uses, both suppliers and purchasers must ensure that its use is lawful and not intended for recreational inhalation (commonly known as “getting high”).

Both YYP Distribution and our customers are expected to act responsibly and not be reckless in the supply, purchase, or use of nitrous oxide.

• Possession with intent for recreational use may result in up to 2 years in prison or an unlimited fine.
• Production or supply for recreational misuse (such as knowingly selling for inhalation) may result in up to 14 years in prison.

Under the current framework, no special licence is required for food-related use of nitrous oxide. Legitimate catering, culinary, or food-service applications remain lawful, provided the purpose is clear. 

YYP Distribution’s supplies are strictly intended for culinary and commercial purposes. Any misuse, unsafe application, or use outside of intended purposes is prohibited. Compliance with local laws and regulations regarding product usage is the responsibility of the purchaser. 

Retailers, including YYP Distribution, must remain cautious when fulfilling orders. We reserve the right to reject or investigate transactions that raise suspicion, such as:

• Unusually large quantities.
• Delivery to student dormitories, festivals, or addresses lacking clear business context.
